~A TRIBUTE OF THE LIFE OF OUR SWEET RITA~

MARCH 17, 1996-MARCH 24, 2009

The Judge Mrs. Lee Bergum, fell hard for Rita and rewarded her by awarding her Best Of Variety over specials in her very first time in the ring at 6 months of age. Rita was having fun and it showed..

After having a slow start while showing Rita's grandsire for a couple of years, I was beginning to feel that my dream of showing my own little homebred would never happen. So off I went to the whelping box to try to see what I could do there. I whelped a lovely little smooth coat chocolate-tri bitch we named: "Harger's Lil Pinch Of Nutmeg" who I bred with a lovely little long coat fawn male, "Jimbobs Charlie Joe Junior". The cross worked and produced our little Rita. I have such fond memorys of our show time together. Rita is an extremely soft and sweet tempered Chihuahua, so it took a bit of prodding to get her dander up and get her into the competition mind set. I found that if any Akitas were in the area, she would go nuts to get at them. Thus, we started arriving early for every show so that we could make a special visit to the Akita rings. It worked! She finished her championship at the Chihuahua Club of Northern CA Specialty under noted judge Peggy Hogg for her third 4 point major.

Note: When you have a dog as special as Rita, you hold on tight and enjoy the journey..this beautiful little Chihuahua, has never dissapointed me. Ever the loving companion and always by my side..how could I ask for anything more?

This is Rita winning her first 4 point major at 9 months of age under judge Alan Harper going Best Of Variety over specials. He told me later as we posed for this picture that he could not deny her from the moment he laid his eyes on her. Born on St Patricks Day 1996 we look forward to many many more years with her. She is my bed baby, my most constant and loyal companion, and she will always be THE Chihuahua that has my heart.

We lost Rita on March 24, 2009 to a sudden and tragic end. She jumped from my husbands arms which she has never tried to do before, when she heard my voice in the bedroom and before he could catch her, she hit her head on the hardwood floor and suffered a fatal blow. Nothing could have prepared us for the loss of one such as my Rita. The years of love and companionship we shared, could never be taken from us. I still look for her, I long to hold her again and feel her sweet presence once again in my life. She stayed by my side most everyday for the past 13 years and in her later years her eyesight was failing her, yet I believe with all my heart, had this terrible accident not have happened, she would have lived easily into her twenty's. She was so healthy otherwise. I miss her so very much...and I pray that one day I will see her again in Heaven and she will be with me forever...

Rest in Peace my Danny Wee Rita. Until we meet again...
