We lost Jazz to a virulent form of Bacterial Bordetella bronchiseptica
April 26, 2006. It hit our little old man so hard, his symptoms manifested
only within hours of his death. Within 3 days of this event, our whole
kennel suffered with it. Our Jazz son Cole, had gone out for show training
from the 22nd-24th. This is where we think it came in from. We also
heard from a handler this past weekend at the Reno shows, that this
killer crude was working its way through the show circut and she lost
a dog who never coughed until it was too late and the dog manefested
the same symptoms as Jazz. The diagnosis was the same which it had worked
its way quickly into pneumonia. Another older dog at the training facility
died that Cole was exposed to. Two days prior to Cole being there, this
dog had been in an animal shelter. We always keep our males together
in the dog run. Cole and our other stud within 2 days after Jazz's death,
manifested pneumonia. CBC showed high white blood cell count and chest
x-rays taken of both the dogs lungs, confirmed pneumonia.
Cole being only 3.60 lbs needed a baytril injection and IV fluids. We
sent samples in for tests of Canine Influenza, which came back negative.
We almost lost Cole. We are so thankful that our little group managed
to pull through the storm.
NOTE: If you have a dog who exhibits signs of just not feeling up to
par, look at the whites of his eyes. If they are dark pink, get him
into your Vet ASAP. This stuff doesn't always cause a cough. In Jazz's
case he coughed 4 hours prior to death, but not allot. It also manifests
with a lot of coughing as well, and the eyes will look as I described.
Form of treatment was Baytril antibiotics. We fought it for a solid
month. Preparing human meals to keep the dogs eating and hydrated so
they could keep up their stamina and fight it. It was tough, but all
made it through. We miss Jazz so much. We also know how lucky we are
to have everyone else. But my heart still is so broken with the sudden
loss of this wonderful little dog.
(Pictured above is his last daughter Tessa sitting next to his grave.
She watched as we buried her sire. Somehow in her own little way I knew
Tess understood that he was gone. His kids have all been so intellegent,
just as he was...and in this shot I felt she was saying her goodbyes
as she looks up to a place she can not go..I left his stuffed gorilla
at his grave. It was his favorite toy.)

The pictures I have of Jazz represent a dog that was unique. He
inspired painters to paint him and artists to sketch him...he was one
of a kind in so many ways. He loved the show ring and loved to run and
of course adored his ladies. He was the typical " tough guy"
in a little 4 lb dog's body. He was a dynamo.. Jazz
ranked in the Top 16 Nationally in 1999 with limited showing. He has
been such a pleasure to have in our lives and has contributed so much
to our breeding program. Soundness, showmanship and type. We loved Jazz
so much and we hope that you will too!
"Jazz" was really All That!

Going through some old discs
I found some more pictures. This is Jazz with his two half sisters,
left to right-Doozy, & Lissie, and his "Lady" on the other
side of Lissie and Rita, his playmate growing up.
Jazz above and below taken in 2002. This dog was rock
solid inside and out. A true showman and a good freind..
Jazz loved to run! He always set the pace for backyard
races between the Chihuahuas.
Jazz 8 years ...
The Ivy shots were taken at my good freind Joan Kirkaldie's home
in the Redwoods of CA 1999.
The shot on the towel was taken for the catalog for the CCA show
in Nashville in 2000.
NOTE: I hope that after seeing him on our website,
that my reader's in some way can feel as though they have met and
experienced this great little dog. He left this world too soon and
had it not been for the legacy he left here with us, I would not have
wanted to move forward. This dog defines everything that I got into
dogs for. He made showing so much fun, he made having Chihuahua's
a daily pleasure, and he has brightened up LIFE for everyone who ever
knew him and continues to do so in his downline. Jazz will never be
forgotten...
